Flourishing at Flour-ishEasy Weight Loss

Karen and Jimmymeow asked us to go with them to Flour-ish, a bakery/cafe in the town of Conroe, which is about halfway, maybe a little less, to Houston.  A road trip for food?  Of course we said yes!

Flour-ish is pretty unassuming from the outside - it's in the corner of a building in downtown Conroe, which is a really cute area.  I swear, Karen and Jimmy find the best places!  We arrived around 9:00 am and it wasn't crowded at all, which was nice.  That gave Jeff and I time to study the menu and when we both had questions, we ended up talking with the baker herself.  It was hard to decide which means we need to make another trip there to try even more things.

Karen displaying a fruit tart - we got one as well and it was delicious.
This is a kouign-amann and if you are ever offered a piece of one, TAKE IT.  Karen and Jimmy ordered them and shared with us - it's a buttery sugary delight that makes all your cares float away.  It's also described as "the fattiest pastry in all of Europe" and I can believe that.  Get it anyway.
Water for the table comes in cute bottles; Jimmy was our waterelier, refilling our glasses as needed throughout the meal.
Karen ordered a biscuit with bacon - their biscuits are known for being the best!
Jimmy ordered avocado toast - topped with bacon and a fried egg, yum.
Jeff ordered the Greek - a beautiful salad atop a large piece of naan.  It had a side of hummus as well.
I ordered the French picnic and this stunned all of us when the waiter set it down and now I want all of my meals served on a board.

My meal was a picnic, deconstructed, served on a board.  It was beautiful and I was so thrilled with all of the fun tidbits that came with it.  The highest focaccia bread I've ever seen, along with ham, brie, Parmesan, apple slices, and in tiny bowls, Dijon mustard, olives, cashews, and apricot jam.  It was so good!  I ate what I could and passed the rest off to Jeff - except for the jam and bread.  This was the best apricot jam I've ever had and it reminded me of my childhood because apricot trees were all over the valley where I grew up and you'd get dried apricots and apricot jam every season and if they'd been selling a jar of this jam I would have bought one, it was that good.

Karen and I walked around the bakery after we'd finished our meals.  We briefly considered getting a slice of this cake:
Orange cake layered with chocolate ganache, topped with cream cheese icing.

But we were realllllly full.  Next time cake's gonna happen.  Everything was so fun, from the Vespa parked inside:
The guy behind the counter said we could take it for a ride...dang it, why didn't we?

To the decor:
Motel room key tags to mark your order number at the table!
Now that's a nice coffee station!
Their mission statement.

It was a wonderful morning of good friends and good food and I'm so glad we went.  If you are ever in Conroe, be sure to stop by Flour-ish for breakfast or lunch...and if you spy a kouign-amann in the bakery case, GET IT.
