I was wrong, and unlike the Fonz, I can admit when I'm wrong.
Our trainers usually get their workouts done in the morning, so I've rarely witnessed any of them in workout mode, but every once in a while life interferes and they need to do a make up session. One time I saw trainer Jori doing her workout and I knew she was serious because she'd removed her signature necklace...plus she was not talking and joking around like she normally does - hey, just like me! I can't do much more than attempt to keep breathing while I do my workout.
Jori and her necklace. She is so sweet. Plus she wears the cutest workout clothes - I want to copy everything she wears.
Last week while I was huffing and puffing through my workout, I realized that Brad was doing his own workout nearby. My normal view of him is in demonstration mode, which is slow because he's showing us what to do. But he was giving his maximum effort, and when we had finished and were laying on the floor in sweaty heaps doing our post-workout stretches, Brad came over and collapsed into the same sweaty heap. It was an eye-opener to realize that this is hard for him, too.
I think I was deceived by this because of how simple and easy they make the exercises look. It's the same as when I watch a certain runner from our group - he has an effortless glide to his run that makes it look like there's nothing to it. I both admire and hate him for that, LOL. Mostly I'm jealous because I'm not that kind of runner.
We are all at different levels of fitness; it has taken me a while to realize that just because I'm not able to lift as much as the person standing next to me doesn't mean that I'm not putting in the same amount of effort. As long as I'm pushing myself to do what my trainers are asking of me, I'm good with my performance. Also, I did burpees last week; real burpees, which I haven't attempted until now because of my calf injury. The good news is that my calf didn't bother me with all of that jumping; the not-surprising news is that I still loathe burpees with the fire of a thousand burning suns. But hey, I did them anyway.
